Lorica lineart

Description

Lorica is latin for body armour. It's also a Celtic prayer for invoking spiritual armour. It's used in Shamanic practises to invoke animal spirit protectors to surround you:

"There are seven directions which include north, south, east and west, above, below and centre (within).
Place one of your guides or forms in each of the directions, for example you may say...
'Bear before me, deer behind me, wolf to the left of me, blackbird to the right of me, hawk above me, salmon below me and the light of love and spirit within me."

I've been working on a Lorica quill for months, but it's never got past the planning stages. I'm finding it difficult to narrow it down to seven animals actually :S
This drawing started out simply as four of my latest spiritual guises from various Pagan holiday rituals (left>right Kes from Yule, Ravari from Lughnasadh, Luna from Samhain, Jess from Imbolc), but I found the background lacking.
I decided to use the animals I was picking between for my Lorica quill, which include wolf, raven, panther, fox, lion, jackal, eagle, cougar, bear, and falcon. I'm also considering moth but I felt that would be out of place here :P

I'll be hand colouring this and uploading the end result, but I wanted to get the lineart up before I started.

EDIT: I have since made Luna and Ravari masks [link]
